Moise MaombiThe Moise Maombi Scholarship Fund hopes to offer a thread of redemption out of the tragic death of Moise Maombi, a 2018 Hoover High School graduate, and a standout City Heights Runner.  Moise was a League Champion and Cross Country State Meet qualifier, who was passionate about using his running talents as a means of securing a better future for himself. Born into the world, literally on the run,  as his Congolese family fled violence and suffering, his family entered the U.S. as refugees, by way of Uganda.

Moise demonstrated grit and passion, and a humble grasping for help.  He used the support systems of City Heights Runners to become an inspirational, kind, and humble leader for many young student athletes in City Heights.

Tragically, while running in college in Arizona,  a loving and hopeful young man was assaulted by invasive and cancerous forces: trauma induced mental illness, and interconnected addiction.   An inspirational young man, who could not find or afford the comprehensive treatment he desperately needed, died tragically from drug overdose in early winter of 2021.

Moise dreamed about using his running as a means of finding the necessary motivation and support to navigate college.  The Moise Maombi Scholarship Fund seeks to identify City Heights Runners alumni currently running at the college level who demonstrate the same qualities of passionate leadership, who are likewise hoping to use running at the collegiate level as means of motivation and support to secure their college graduation.  Currently, there are over ten City Heights Runners running at the collegiate level, who loved and drew inspiration from Moise!
